About Mrs. BrooksPosted by Jennifer Brooks, 8/12/08 at 3:51:37 PM.Dear Families:
Well, the time has come and school is officially here. I just wanted to take a moment to welcome all of you back. This year is going to be filled with adventures and learning. Our students are going to be working on various skills that will help them in all stages of education and life.
Here is a little bit of information about me.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Brooks and this is my third year as a teacher at Mountain Shadows Elementary School and my sixth year teaching. The past five years I taught as a Special Education Teacher for grades 4-8 teaching all subjects to students with special needs. I graduated from Arizona State University in the Spring of 2003 where I received my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Special Education and Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology.
This year I decided to make a change and teach 4th grade because I wanted to not only make a difference in the small group of students that I taught but with a much more diverse group of students. Teaching is a challenge and I want the students to find the challenge of learning refreshing, informative, personal, and most of all fun. I set very high standards for my students because I feel they are capable of achieving anything they desire. Most importantly, I never accept less than one hundred percent of effort from anyone, particularly myself. If I hold such high expectations for my students, then they should expect that degree of effort in return from their teacher. Every day, I try to think of innovative ways I can capture my students' interest in topics that they did not learn much about prior to fourth grade, particularly topics pertaining to Social Studies and Science. It is most rewarding when I watch your child develop inquiry and comprehension skills because I dedicated as much time as I could to make his or her learning experiences authentic. One thing that I want my students to learn is that the word can¢â¡Át or cannot is a road block and to change their way of thinking by coming face to face with a task or idea that was difficult for them in the past and say, "I am not very good at this but I am willing to try. This mindset will not only make learning much more fun but it will take the road blocks away from the learning environment, whether it is at school or at home. As always you can contact me with any questions or concerns. My phone number is (623)445-4326 and my email address is Jennifer.Brooks@dvusd.org. If you would like to meet in person please make sure you schedule an appointment with me because your time is valuable and I wouldn¢â¡Át want you to come all the way down to school and find that I am teaching class or in a meeting. Have a great year and I look forward to working with you and your student.
Sincerely, Jennifer Brooks
